hey halal makan...

if u r interested in halal food in sg, you can check out clementi ave 2 - i think it's blk around 35X something near the wet market

there's quite a few eateries that serve very good halal food - there's a chicken rice store, a yong tau foo store by the name of "Da Jie" and a newly opened thai-chinese stall

my personal fav is the Yong Tau Foo store, which serves a variety of different gravies and styles different from the standard fare - ampang / hakka / tomato / laksa / tom yam / black bean - more than u can find anywhere else

This is a restaurant that opened a year ago along Changi Road, number 324 Changi Road to be precise.

The best and most interesting part about Siamese Cat Restaurant is they serve organic food i.e. organic vegetables, tofu, rice, fruit juices, teas and coffee. Just about everything they serve is organic, except the meat e.g. chicken because the cost of organic meat is exorbitant.

But what good is... organic food if it tastes bad? Not so in the case of Siamese Cat Restaurant. The dishes may be simple e.g. prawn paste chicken, but the cooking is fantastic! Everything is fresh and cooked just right - not undercooked or overcooked - and the "wok hei" (fire from the wok) is first-rate.

The waitstaff recommended Fish Maw Soup (excellent recommendation), Prawn Paste Chicken or Honey Chicken (the former was chosen as we were not in the mood for sweet chicken), Seafood Pancake (a delectable dish of lightly-fried popiah skin covering bits of prawn and squid) and Organic Imperial Shoots ("di wang miao" as the Chinese call it).

We had organic unpolished rice and antioxidant water with the abovementioned dishes.

The food came piping hot and well-cooked, our compliments went to the chef who we were told did a stint at The Singapore Hilton.

Suitably impressed, we vowed to return. The bill came to about $50 for the four of us, there was no service charge or GST, which is nice for a well-decorated air-conditioned restaurant.

So there it is, a restaurant serving organic food in the eastern part of Singapore, something we have been looking forward to for a while and finally have.
